Hi Sarahbeth, Describe your sound in three words.
Pure, simple, country.
Who influenced you, and why did you choose to make music?
I’m influenced by Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Martina McBride and Allison Krauss. Both sonically and lyrically. I love the way they celebrated womanhood in their songs. Making music has been outlet for me as long as I can remember — it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do as a “job”.
Do you ever get nervous?
Yes! It just means I’m alive and human. I hope I’ll always get a little nervous for things that are important to me.
Tell us about your new single “First Rodeo?”
This song is really special to me. It’s the third single off of my upcoming EP, “The Way We Started” and it’s right up there as one of my favorites I’ve released. A classic, nostalgic, summer country song.
Can you walk us through your creative process for this single? How did the idea come to life?
I wrote “First Rodeo” with my friends Scott Stepakoff and Grant Vogel. I remember that day we went in to write, Grant came in with this idea. It was a title we all felt like we’d already heard a million times – but the angle was brand new. We all were so excited to dive in and try to tell a new story using this old cliche. It took us a few days of writing to get it right, but we knew we had something worth finishing from the first verse.
Were there any specific experiences or emotions that fueled the writing and composition of this song?
To me, “First Rodeo” is kind of a universally shared experience. We all have a first love. We all remember it well. As writers, Scott, Grant and I were all able to draw from our own learning experiences and I hope the listener can hear their own story in this too.
How do you usually start working on a new song? Do you begin with lyrics, melodies, or a concept?
I always like to start a song with a strong hook/title to write towards. The lyric is the most important piece to me. A melody usually comes along with it, but that part is much more subject to change, as long as the “puzzle pieces” of the lyric are fitting together and teeing up the hook perfectly.
If you could perform a duet with any artist, who would it be and what song would you choose?
I’m always dreaming of a Chris Stapleton or Cody Johnson duet! I’d sing the phonebook or “Happy Birthday” if it meant getting to sing with either of them.
If you could have one of your songs feature in any TV show or movie, which one would it be and why?
If I could go back in time, I would want to have a song in “9 to 5” or “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou”! One of the classics. If I could have a current tv show or movie feature, I’d want it to be something that stands the test of time.
What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind after a long day of recording or performing?
Just being home with my daughter, my husband and my dog! Takeout dinner, movie night, snuggles on the couch. I’m a homebody.
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
I wish I could tell my younger self to let go of my expectations and enjoy the journey. So much joy has come from my life’s surprises. My path has never looked exactly how I thought it would, and that’s what makes it sweet.
What’s next for Sarahbeth Taite in the second half of 2024?
My new EP, “The Way We Started” is releasing on August 23rd. I’m so excited for this next chapter of my artistry to begin and can’t wait to see what all this new season holds for me.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness is gratitude. Happiness is counting my blessings even on the hard days. Happiness is remembering daily how much God has already given me. And happiness is being with my family!
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years?
I’ve learned that there’s no way to plan that far in this crazy music business and in life! I try to stay in the moment and enjoy every little success as it comes. But I do see myself with a lot more music out in the world over these next 5 years!
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car or for karaoke?
Wide Open Spaces (The Chicks) or Wild One (Faith Hill)!
Where can we follow you?
